Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA-region and related languages, providing native-speaker reviewed translations of civil and legal documents for USCIS, US courts, universities, and medical providers. We are looking for a Legal Oromo Translator to join our network of native-speaker reviewers, translating and certifying Afaan Oromoo documents to meet strict USCIS and legal accuracy standards.

What you'll do

• Translate legal and civil documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, police clearances, and academic transcripts) from Oromo to English and, where needed, English to Oromo
• Review and edit AI-generated draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names, dates, and numbers
• Sign certification statements attesting that translations are true, complete, and accurate, meeting the requirements of 8 CFR § 103.2(b)(3)
• Preserve original document layout and formatting in the certified output
• Apply correct transliteration conventions for proper nouns and names, including matching spellings requested for immigration filings
• Meet posted turnaround commitments, including standard, rush, and same-day delivery windows

What we're looking for

• Native or near-native fluency in Afaan Oromoo and strong command of English
• Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
• Familiarity with USCIS certified translation requirements or willingness to learn them
• Strong attention to detail, particularly with names, dates, and numerical data
• Ability to work independently and meet tight, defined deadlines
• Comfort reviewing and editing machine-generated translation drafts

Nice to have

• Prior experience as a certified or sworn translator
• Familiarity with Ethiopian civil registry documents and regional dialect variation
• Experience working with immigration attorneys or translation agencies
