Myanmar government records are in Burmese and Thai camp registration documents in Thai or English, so Karen-language material is usually church, school, and community records issued in the camps. Karen names have no family surname and often begin with the honorifics Saw (male) or Naw (female), which Verdacert preserves and explains for USCIS form alignment. Dates use the day-month-year order, and Thai documents may use the Buddhist calendar, which Verdacert converts to Gregorian.
