Legal translation · Certified

Certified legal translation for courts, agencies and law firms.

Word-for-word English translations of court records, judgments, contracts, affidavits, powers of attorney and divorce decrees, from more than 100 languages. Each one carries a certification statement signed by name by the reviewer who certified it, ready to file or attach as an exhibit.

WHAT YOU GET

What a certified legal translation includes

  • The whole document. Every page translated word for word, with stamps, seals and signatures described in brackets, so the translation holds up when it is read line by line.
  • A signed certification. The reviewer who certifies the translation signs a statement, by name, that it is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate the language.
  • A way to check it. The certificate carries a QR code and a link that a clerk, opposing counsel or an agency can use to confirm it is genuine.
  • Names spelled your way. You give us the spellings used in your other filings when you order, so the parties' names match across the record.
  • Marked, never guessed. Where a handwritten entry or a faded stamp can't be read, the translation says [illegible] rather than guessing.

WHERE IT'S FILED

Where legal translations go, and what each asks for

  • USCIS and immigration court. A certified English translation is the whole requirement. Neither asks for a notary.
  • State and federal courts. Our translations are prepared in the form US courts commonly accept for civil, criminal and family matters, but admissibility is always the court's decision. Some state courts want a notarized affidavit of accuracy: add notarization at checkout.
  • When the translator must sign before a notary. Our affidavit is signed by a Verdacert officer, not the individual translator. If a court's rules require the translator's own notarized signature, check with the clerk before you order.
  • Counsel, mediators and arbitrators. Translations for exhibits, discovery and settlement papers, certified the same way.
  • Recorders, banks and agencies. Powers of attorney, deeds and corporate records for county recorders, title companies, banks and state agencies.

WHAT WE DON'T DO

Documents, not hearings or legal advice

We translate written documents. We don't provide interpreters for hearings, depositions or interviews, and nothing we deliver is legal advice: whether a document is the right evidence, or what it means for a case, is a question for an attorney.

For long contracts, correspondence or discovery you need to read but not file, a certified translation may be more than you need. Business translation is priced per word and isn't certified.

FAQ08 QUESTIONS

Legal translation, answered

Q.01How much does a certified legal translation cost?
It's priced per page. Court records, contracts, affidavits, powers of attorney, deeds and corporate records are $32.95 a page at Standard (48 hours), $33.95 at Express (24 hours) and $48.99 at Rush (14 hours). Divorce decrees and police clearances are $22.95, $23.95 and $38.99. Orders of 8 pages or more get a multi-page discount, and the order form shows the exact total as soon as you upload.
Q.02Will a court accept a Verdacert translation?
Our translations are prepared in the form US state and federal courts commonly accept: a complete translation with a certification statement signed by name. Admissibility is always decided by the court, so if it has its own rules for translations, check them first. If a court rejects a translation we delivered because of an error in the translation or the certification, we retranslate it at no charge or refund the order, as our Refund Policy sets out.
Q.03Does a legal translation need to be notarized?
Not for USCIS or immigration court. Some state courts and agencies ask for a notarized affidavit of accuracy. Add notarization at checkout for $29.95 an order: a Verdacert officer swears to the translation's accuracy in an affidavit, and a commissioned US notary notarizes it over a recorded video session. You get the notarized PDF usually within three business days after the certified PDF.
Q.04Can you translate a contract or agreement?
Yes. A contract translated for a court, an agency or a filing is certified like any other document, at the legal-document rate. If you only need to read a long agreement and won't file it, business translation is priced per word and isn't certified.
Q.05How long does a legal translation take?
48 hours at Standard, 24 at Express and 14 at Rush, counted from when you pay. Express and Rush run around the clock, weekends included. For a hearing tomorrow, Same-Day aims for 8 hours on a best-effort basis and is refunded in full if we miss it.
Q.06Do you translate handwritten or hard-to-read court records?
Yes. Handwritten entries, stamps and marginal notes are translated faithfully. Where a word is genuinely illegible, the translation marks it [illegible] rather than guessing, and the reviewer explains any such marks in the certification.
Q.07Do you provide court interpreters?
No. We translate written documents only. A hearing, deposition or interview needs an interpreter; ask the court which interpreters it uses or certifies.
Q.08Is a client's file kept confidential?
Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest, processed only by the service providers on our published subprocessor list, each bound by contract not to train AI models on them, and never sold or shared. Reviewers work in a permissioned portal with audit logging, and source documents are deleted from active storage one year after delivery, or earlier on request.
