Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and medical documentation, with a strong focus on the MENA region and a growing roster of world languages. We are looking for a Legal Tamil Translator to join our network of native-speaker reviewers who edit, certify, and sign off on translations before they reach clients. This role is central to our promise of accurate, native-reviewed translations delivered on tight deadlines.

What you'll do

• Review and edit machine-generated first-draft translations of legal and civil documents from Tamil into English (and, where needed, English into Tamil)
• Verify accuracy of names, dates, numbers, and other critical details against the source document
• Apply correct transliteration conventions for proper nouns and ensure names match spellings required for immigration filings
• Sign certification statements confirming the translation is a true, complete, and accurate rendering of the original
• Meet document-specific turnaround windows, including standard, expedited, and rush deliveries
• Flag inconsistencies, illegible text, or ambiguous content in source documents to the project team

What we're looking for

• Native or near-native fluency in Tamil and strong command of English
• Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, academic transcripts, etc.)
• Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements for official use
• Strong attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
• Ability to work within defined deadlines, including rush and same-day turnarounds
• Comfortable working with digital document formats (PDF, scanned images) and preserving original layout in translated output

Nice to have

• Prior experience translating documents for USCIS, court, or embassy submissions
• Familiarity with Tamil civil registry formats and regional document conventions
• Notary or apostille coordination experience
