Legal Yoruba Translator
About the role
Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and medical documentation, with a strong specialization in the MENA region. We're expanding our reviewer network to include additional languages, and are looking for a Legal Yoruba Translator to review, edit, and certify Yoruba-to-English (and/or English-to-Yoruba) translations of legal and civil documents to the standard required by USCIS and other official bodies.
As a native-speaker reviewer, you'll work on documents such as birth and marriage certificates, court records, affidavits, academic transcripts, and immigration filings, ensuring each translation is accurate, complete, and ready for official submission.
What you'll do
- Review and edit machine-generated first-draft translations between Yoruba and English for legal and civil documents
- Verify names, dates, numbers, and other critical details are transcribed exactly as they appear in the source document
- Apply standard transliteration conventions for proper nouns without a direct English equivalent
- Sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation, in line with 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)
- Flag any document quality, legibility, or ambiguity issues that could affect translation accuracy
- Meet defined turnaround windows (standard, express, and rush) without compromising review quality
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Yoruba and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with proper nouns, dates, and numerical data
- Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements
- Ability to work within defined deadlines, including rush turnarounds when needed
- Comfort reviewing documents digitally and working with PDF-based deliverables
Nice to have
- Prior experience with USCIS, court, or immigration-related translations
- Familiarity with Nigerian civil registry documents and conventions
- Experience with transliteration standards for Yoruba names and terms
