Legal Indonesian Translator

About the role

Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA-region and other foreign-language civil documents for USCIS filings, US courts, universities, and medical providers, with every translation reviewed by a native speaker before release. We are expanding our reviewer network to include Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) and are looking for a Legal Indonesian Translator to review, certify, and refine translations of civil, legal, and academic documents.

What you'll do

  • Translate and/or review Indonesian-to-English translations of legal and civil documents such as birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, academic transcripts, and professional licenses
  • Edit AI-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names, dates, and numbers
  • Sign the certification statement attesting that each translation is a true, complete, and accurate rendering of the source document
  • Preserve original document layout and formatting in the certified deliverable
  • Apply correct transliteration conventions consistent with USCIS filing requirements and the client's supporting documents (e.g., prior immigration forms)
  • Turn around documents within stated service windows (same-day, rush, express, or standard)

What we're looking for

  • Native or near-native fluency in Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) and professional fluency in English
  • Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or official documents between Indonesian and English
  • Strong attention to detail with names, dates, numbers, and official terminology
  • Familiarity with Indonesian civil document conventions (e.g., KTP, akta kelahiran, akta nikah) and their US equivalents
  • Ability to work independently against turnaround deadlines ranging from hours to a couple of days
  • Comfort reviewing and editing machine-translated drafts rather than only translating from scratch

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with USCIS-certified translation standards (e.g., 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3))
  • Background in legal, paralegal, or court interpreting work
  • Experience with other regional languages or dialects relevant to Indonesian civil records
