Legal Sinhala Translator
About the role
Verdacert provides certified translations for immigration, legal, academic, and medical documents, with every translation reviewed by a native-speaker reviewer before release. We are looking for a Legal Sinhala Translator to join our reviewer network, translating and certifying documents from Sinhala into English (and where applicable, English into Sinhala) for use in USCIS filings, court proceedings, university applications, and other official purposes.
What you'll do
- Translate legal, civil, and personal documents (birth and marriage certificates, court records, affidavits, academic transcripts, and similar filings) between Sinhala and English
- Review and edit machine-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and fidelity to the source document
- Apply correct transliteration conventions for names, places, and official terminology consistent with USCIS and legal filing standards
- Sign and issue certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation
- Preserve the layout and formatting of original documents in the certified translation
- Meet defined turnaround windows, including standard, expedited, and rush delivery timelines
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Sinhala and English, with strong legal and civil-document vocabulary in both languages
- Demonstrated experience translating official, legal, or immigration-related documents
- Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements (e.g., for USCIS or court submissions)
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work within firm deadlines, including rush turnaround requests
- Comfortable working with digital document formats (PDF, JPG, PNG, HEIC, TIFF) and reviewing scanned originals
Nice to have
- Prior experience as a certified or sworn translator
- Familiarity with Sri Lankan civil registry, court, or academic document conventions
- Experience supporting immigration attorneys, USCIS filings, or asylum case documentation
