Legal Croatian Translator
About the role
Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations, primarily for MENA-region languages, delivered under tight turnaround windows with signed certification statements. We are hiring a Legal Croatian Translator to join our reviewer network, translating civil, legal, and immigration documents from Croatian into English (and vice versa) to a standard that meets USCIS and court requirements.
What you'll do
- Translate civil status records, court documents, academic transcripts, and immigration filings between Croatian and English
- Review and edit machine-generated first drafts for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names and proper nouns
- Sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the delivered file
- Meet defined turnaround windows (standard, express, and rush) without compromising accuracy
- Flag ambiguous source content, illegible text, or discrepancies to the project lead before certifying a document
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Croatian and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration documents
- Familiarity with certified translation standards and certification statement requirements
- Strong attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work within firm deadlines, including expedited turnaround requests
- Comfortable working remotely and communicating status via email
Nice to have
- Prior experience translating for USCIS filings, courts, or academic credential evaluation
- Certification or formal training in translation or interpretation
- Experience with Balkan civil registry and court document conventions
