Legal Dutch Translator
About the role
Verdacert is looking for a Legal Dutch Translator to join our roster of native-speaker linguists producing certified translations of legal and civil documents. This role focuses on accurately translating Dutch-language source documents into English for use in immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and other official submissions, ensuring every translation meets the certification standards our clients depend on.
What you'll do
- Translate legal, civil, and administrative documents (such as birth certificates, marriage records, court judgments, and academic transcripts) between Dutch and English with full fidelity to the original
- Review and edit machine-generated first drafts for accuracy, tone, and legal precision before certification
- Apply correct transliteration and formatting conventions for names, dates, and official terminology
- Sign certification statements attesting to the completeness and accuracy of each translation
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the final deliverable
- Meet defined turnaround windows, including standard, expedited, and rush delivery timelines
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Dutch and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Strong understanding of Dutch civil registry, court, and government document conventions
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work independently and meet firm deadlines, including expedited turnarounds
- Comfort reviewing and correcting AI-assisted draft translations
Nice to have
- Prior experience providing certified translations for USCIS, courts, or academic institutions
- Familiarity with certification and notarization requirements for translated documents
- Experience with additional regional Dutch dialects or Flemish document conventions
