Legal Chin (Hakha) Translator
About the role
Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translations for immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and medical documentation, with a focus on native-speaker review and fast turnaround. We are looking for a Legal Chin (Hakha) Translator to join our network of reviewers, translating civil, legal, and academic documents between Chin (Hakha) and English for use in USCIS filings, court proceedings, and other official contexts.
What you'll do
- Translate legal and civil documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, affidavits, academic transcripts, and similar) between Chin (Hakha) and English
- Review machine-generated draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithfulness to the source document
- Prepare and sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy of each translation, consistent with 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3)
- Preserve original document formatting and layout in the translated output
- Apply correct, consistent transliteration of names and proper nouns, including matching spellings to immigration forms (such as I-130) when provided
- Meet defined turnaround windows, including rush and same-day deadlines when assigned
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Chin (Hakha) and strong professional fluency in English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Familiarity with Chin civil registry documents, court records, and standard document conventions from relevant jurisdictions
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work within firm deadlines, including rush turnaround requests
- Comfort reviewing and editing machine-generated draft translations rather than translating fully from scratch
Nice to have
- Prior experience providing certified translations for USCIS, court, or academic submissions
- Experience with asylum, humanitarian parole, or refugee resettlement case documentation
- Familiarity with additional regional languages or dialects
