Legal Tigrinya Translator
About the role
Verdacert is a US-based certified translation service specializing in MENA and other global-language documents for immigration, court, university, and medical use, with native-speaker review on every document and delivery in 14–48 hours. We're looking for a Legal Tigrinya Translator to join our reviewer network, translating civil and legal documents from Tigrinya into certified English suitable for USCIS filings, US courts, and other official use.
What you'll do
- Translate civil and legal documents (birth certificates, marriage records, court documents, police clearances, academic transcripts, and similar) from Tigrinya into English
- Review and edit AI-generated first-draft translations for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names, dates, and numbers
- Sign the certification statement attesting that each translation is a true, complete, and accurate rendering of the source document, in line with 8 CFR § 103.2(b)(3)
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the certified output
- Apply consistent, jurisdiction-appropriate transliteration conventions for proper nouns without a direct English equivalent
- Turn around documents within stated deadlines, including rush and same-day requests when needed
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Tigrinya and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Strong attention to detail, especially with names, dates, registry numbers, and official seals
- Familiarity with Eritrean and/or Ethiopian civil document conventions and formats
- Ability to work independently against turnaround-time commitments
- Comfort reviewing AI-assisted draft translations and editing them to certification-ready quality
Nice to have
- Prior experience with USCIS-certified translation requirements or immigration filings
- Experience translating court records, academic transcripts, or medical documents
- Familiarity with regional Tigrinya dialects across Eritrea and Ethiopia
