Legal Twi (Akan) Translator
About the role
Verdacert is looking for a Legal Twi (Akan) Translator to support certified translations of legal, civil, and immigration-related documents. This role focuses on delivering accurate, culturally faithful translations that meet the standards required by USCIS, courts, and other official bodies. You will work on documents such as birth certificates, marriage records, court filings, and academic transcripts, ensuring every translation is complete, precise, and properly certified.
What you'll do
- Translate legal and civil documents between Twi (Akan) and English, preserving meaning, tone, and formatting
- Review and edit machine-generated first drafts for accuracy and fidelity to the source document
- Apply correct transliteration conventions for names, dates, and places per client filing requirements
- Sign certification statements attesting to the accuracy and completeness of each translation
- Meet turnaround deadlines ranging from standard to rush delivery windows
- Flag inconsistencies, ambiguities, or errors found in source documents
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Twi (Akan) and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration-related documents
- Strong understanding of Ghanaian civil document conventions (birth/marriage certificates, court records, academic transcripts)
- Meticulous attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numerical data
- Ability to work independently and meet tight, defined deadlines
- Familiarity with certification and notarization requirements for official document translation
Nice to have
- Prior experience translating for USCIS, court, or immigration filings
- Certification or credentials in legal translation
- Experience with regional Twi dialects or related Akan language variants
