Legal Kinyarwanda Translator
About the role
Verdacert provides USCIS-certified translation services for immigration filings, court proceedings, university applications, and medical and insurance correspondence, with native-speaker review on every document. We are looking for a Legal Kinyarwanda Translator to join our roster of reviewers, translating civil, legal, and immigration documents between Kinyarwanda and English to the standard required for USCIS and other official filings.
What you'll do
- Translate civil and legal documents (birth and marriage certificates, court records, affidavits, academic transcripts, and immigration filings) between Kinyarwanda and English
- Review and edit machine-generated first drafts for accuracy, completeness, and faithful transliteration of names and proper nouns
- Sign the certification statement attesting that each translation is a true, complete, and accurate rendering of the original document
- Preserve original document layout and formatting in the certified deliverable
- Flag ambiguous, damaged, or incomplete source documents before certification
- Meet delivery windows ranging from standard (48 hours) to rush turnaround
What we're looking for
- Native or near-native fluency in Kinyarwanda and English
- Demonstrated experience translating legal, civil, or immigration documents
- Familiarity with Rwandan civil registry documents, court records, and official document conventions
- Strong attention to detail, especially with names, dates, and numbers
- Ability to work independently against firm deadlines
- Comfort reviewing and correcting AI-assisted translation drafts
Nice to have
- Prior experience with USCIS-related translation certification requirements
- Experience translating for asylum, humanitarian parole, or refugee resettlement cases
- Familiarity with additional regional languages or dialects
